Layout

Featuring: Kouryuu & Ken'yuu of Saiyuki,
and various levels of experimentation with brushes, typography, and motion blurs.

Would very much have liked to portray them as good little playmates, but for the lack of appropriate pictures...

Done by s.C.,
using Photoshop 6.0 (while it lasted, before dying on me), and afterwards Photoshop CS.
Brushes are taken from the very excellent vbrush

Keeper of Sanzo's dreams,
and Nataku's child within.

THE ESSAY! IT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO NEXT WEDNESDAY. OMG EVERYTHING'S FALLING INTO PLACE. *SEES HALO OF LIGHT*

Now I'll only have to finish my formal report. 20 pages, 8 more hours to go. You can do it s.C.! ...What sleeping disorder?

This was supposed to be the Wakeboarding entry...

But. Do artists really feel more creative at night? I thought it was just me. I mean, it's not like I claim to be an -artist- anyway, 'cause I'll just give a bad name to that thing they call "productivity".

There's nothing really useful in that link, but the creative cycles of different artists provide for an interesting read. I myself am the kind of person who lives her waking life in a white haze. If you attached a thought bubble above my head in daytime, it would be blank. But in my non-waking life -- that is, from the moment I plopped down to bed -- inspirations, visualisations, wordplays and whatnots would gush into my head. Which proves a rather inconvenient problem because the very reason why I'm on the bed IS TO GET SOME SLEEP. Jeez.

At least, that was how it used to be.

Nowadays (actually it's been a couple of years o_O), I'll just drift off to an unusually dreamless sleep, which probably happens because I'm staying up a lot later and longer than before, sometimes even till 5 or 6 in the morning... just for the heck of it. XD I do miss those days when I have to get up from bed my mattressonthefloor and put down the ever-incoming ideas in my trusty notepad by the bedside, in the moonlight, just so I won't forget them the next day. (Actually, I believe I've blogged about this before -- the origins of my little black book with the accompanying little pencil :D And how I love the fact that my ex-room-windows open up to a flood of moonlight.)

But honestly, 11pm to 5am remains the most coughchokechokeproductiveahem period for me.

早死型的。

Lookie, it's 3am. And I have to wake up at 8am for a project tomor-- I mean-- later.
Btw, the parent site of the above forum -is- quite useful for (manga)artists. I just can't remember where I got the link from.

-----------

I've also finished writing the draft of the October ZS Saiyuki. Yes I make a draft before actually typing it out. I'm so serious about making it perfect(ish) it scares me. And it's not perfect in the end anyway XD
But I'm hesitant to say "I'll post it up by XXth date!", 'cause... y'know... 2 months ago I was still going on about "making the final amendments to act 10!!". ...Which remains an unposted .txt file to this day. Oops, my bad. *grinz*

a quiz of kinds [sic XD]

Now that my arms have finished aching from wakeboarding (:D!), it's time to get some writing done so I won't look at some sponsorship proposal and feel grammatically stupid in not being able to edit all those blatantly wrong sentences.

 spontaneously combustible

Not dead yet, not quite. Just...

I would elaborate, but I'll have to finish up this t-shirt design thingy first. Well, at least I amused myself doodling the... thing... above.

That time,

It was you who first held out your hand, Goku.

...Honestly, you' re such a bother.

No matter what happens, I can't let go of that hand already, can I?

The best thing was, I've never once believed this pose would actually appear in canon one day. Fandom? Plenty. In fact just a couple of weeks back I had aspired to draw a picture of Konzen and Goku, and the idea was almost an exact duplicate of this Embrace Scene.... so now that Minekura's actually materialised it with her pen on the series with those words... that scene really touched the heart for me on various levels.
Don't you just love Minekura? And JttR? :D

I don't have the Saiyuki manga with me now, but when Goku pounced on Konzen, I was wondering if that could've been a parallelism of the scene in vol. 6 where seitenGoku kicked poisonedSanzo down and sat on him. Can't remember if Sanzo was grazed across the cheek - as is Konzen - as well, but the wide-eyed look Goku had when he stared into Sanzo's eyes/face then - well, we know he must have had a flicker of recognition of Sanzo/Konzen, but now that we actually see how Konzen could indeed have left Goku with a possibly indelible memory from a similar situation, it becomes suggestive of an interrelation between the scenes there.
But vol. 6 was in the really early days, so I might be stretching it a bit here.

Minekura's style has changed so subtly since the 1st tank that Konzen looks more hardened, yet softened at the same time. It's a lovely feeling. It could've been my imagination though.

At around the same time, Tsubasa came out with its newest 30+ pages of serialisation, and it was such a fantastic chapter (colourpage-wise and plot-wise) that stormy heard -- at some point in time from outside the room -- me screaming "OMGOMGOMG!!!".

Colourpage wise, it was Fai in that lovely golden+sapphire uniform-like outfit, lying in a liquid body of sad blue, with one of his rueful smiles he felt generous enough to share... and gazing at his right hand.
The cold hands
The two hands that sealed him
Those drifting thoughts. Are they dreams? Are they realities.

Man, I was completely blown away. Mangakas are sure coming up with good stuff.
Plot-wise, it was the sweet moments of Kurogane with Tomoyo, the implied mutual understanding.
Tenderness that enwraps all
it transcends dimensions

I feel like I have honey all inside of me now.

SQUEE.

Dammit that's evil. Underhanded. Now how the hell am I going to persist in -not- buying WARD? Do you hear that vague vacuumy sound in the distance? Obviously someone's getting sucked into the Point of No Return (of $$$ in ATM Card). I'm not trying to convince myself, but it's not like it's a bad thing, you know what I mean? I mean, I'm not trying to convince myself, but it's worth it is it not? As in, I'm not trying to convince myself, but holytwoyearsGaidenless. IT'S WORTH IT.

Like a collector's item of sorts.

I need

No convincing.

::walks around in circles::

===========

Haven't been updating for days on end. The thing is, school has -not- been boring. In fact, if I could, I ought to have flooded the blog with multiple entries already.
But it's either
1) Couldn't find the time, or
2) Spacebar-acts-up-on-me-like-this. I need to call techsupport tomorrow.

When you live in Hall, you would've thought you'll spend a lot of time in your room, because it simply is just -there- for you to return to when your lessons end or your break's too long to loiter around in school.
But no. It feels as if you spend merely 30%(I did say "feel as if") of your day in the room, sleeping hours included. I'm trying to find out why. It's just not fair is it? :D

===========

Today itself has been fairly strange - like my body's willed itself to malfunction a couple of times or something nearly as odd. One is I had a calf crampwhilejogging, which(attack ofthe spacebar again!)I've never,EVERexperienced before ,an dt heo ther has detailstoogrosstobeposte dhere.

Ack,s tupidkeyboard. It'stelling-me-to-stop-blogging-and-go-do tutorials-right-away. ...And-I-shall-listen to this-advice-just-this-once. :D

[EDIT:]
This-is-so-extremely-stupid.

I-clicked-"post"-and-the-stupid-spacebar-then-proceeded-to-click-itself-mutiple-times.

Which-resulted-in-15-duplicate-entries.("15-gaiden Goku pictures loading ! Just how sweet isthat?")

Is-this-one-wild-spacebar or-what.

 Blessed be the disorganised

The blue leather-bound book feels strange and weighty in my hands. Am now trying to grasp the concept "organising my plans" with this foreign object they call "organiser".
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *flails* I'm dying so miserably. I'm just absolutely terrible at organising things *kickflails* And when I say "organising", I'm seriously referring to hopelessly simple housekeeping, like:

Event XXX is happening on 21 Aug. Do you have anything else on that day that might clash with it?

Twenty-fi...? Wha-? I don't know, maybe I should take a look at this "organiser" thing... no- wha- ARRGH SO MANY DATES. MY EYES. THEY GOING IMPLODEY Twen-twen-twen-twentyfi-- NO DON'T INTERROGATE ME ANYMORE JUST LET THEM CLASH PLZKTHX *slams organiser shut*

Yeah, PL, I don't know how you do it, but you and your super-calendar-planners-of-doom will have my utmost worship for all of 1 minute starting now. Oops! you're not here to receive my worship, too bad.

I KNOW, I'm pathetic, this much is confirmed. Now run along boys and girls, this tortured mortal here has a timetable-related email to send... right after her brain recovers from certain short-circuitness. (dies)

-----------

After about 1-2 weeks of cough and cold (curses!), sickness finally seems like letting up. I was really worried that "accidentallyahem" playing football in the rain the other day will prolong the cold, BUT! am still fine and dandy :D

Wednesday, August 10, 2005 :: 09:37 p.m.

When feeling bored in dorm room...

...upload scans. XD But I seemed to have left the 2 Sanzo scans at home -_- will have to upload that next time.

Tutorials! They're the last thing on my mind now :D Looking forward to tomorrow's lab session of "Sketching in 2-Point Perspective -- Circles". Sounds nice and art-ish doesn't it. And I'm not even taking art course. I flipped through the manual given, and it damn straight looked like a chapter right out of RandomBook#9323 on How To Draw Manga! Vanishing Points for Dummies!! ...yeah. XD

Unfortunately I don't draw mechas, which is what this session looks to be mostly about.

In other news, whenever I have a cough, it'll always seem chronic, 'cos it just won't go away. I'm having one now, which doesn't seem like stopping until I cough up a lung or something. Very irritating.

Thursday, August 4, 2005 :: 02:44 a.m.

I thought, Hey, I'll just walk in, grab Zero Sum, and get out.

One deep breath and two short gasps later

I staggered giddily out of Kinokuniya with ZS, Saiyuubito, and Tsubasa Caractere Guide.

Oh my god. I have absolutely no effing self control. XD
And to think the conversation went something like this the other day:
"I think I can trust you with this card, right? It's not like you shop a lot anyway."
"Of course you can, mum."

...Must share joy, once I get my hands on the scanner.
The Saiyubito Q&A section was a gem as well... must translate and share joy...

joy joy joy *dead*

The responsibility one bears as a taciturn roomate

Have successfully moved in to hostel and connected to the internet. I forsee this happening:
stormy: Hey, how's your day?
s.C.: Go read my blog.
"So you can't tell me right here because I'm sitting an astronomical 1 metre away from you?"
"Pfft, I've typed it all in. Go read it yourself."
"... ..."
"Oh, and remember you can conveniently leave a comment. I'll also conveniently anwser through the comment later."

...Nah. That's just scary. XD

Monday, July 25, 2005 :: 04:39 p.m.

At the risk of sounding more idiotic than I actually am,

I'm dying over the latest Tsubasa chapter. It's not even benign (in fangirls' eyes) anymore - Fai adheres to Kurogane's arm! The stickiness goes on for 3 pages, and if [fangirls are] lucky, it might even spill over to the next chapter.

But,

Moving on,

July 22 was a special day. Not because it was stormy's birthday. ::insert yaaay+confetti popping+handing-over-of-slightly-damp-bday-card sound effects::

And I passed my driving test.

No Phantom Taxi(tm) this time - except during the warmup, grrr - so all was good. But the fun started when I walked out to where mum was picking me up and she asked, "Wanna drive :D :D :D?"

Come again? Does the sun rise in the east? Do I like football? Is Gojyo sexy? Is that car 2000cc??? OF COURSE.

I had taken leave from the hall camp to take the test, so now I
1) Drove from driving centre back to NTU. Not much happened except I went up to an excess of 100 km/h on the expressway. ...Well, it only happened for several seconds... but hey, it happened. I disregard the fact that this is not even our own car.

2) After retrieving something I've forgotten to take in the hostel room, I had to drive around to Sentosa where the camp was actually then at.
What I learnt: Never ever trust the mother with the map, if only because the map is in English so she mostly ignored that and relied on her learner-taxi-driver instinct. (Yes, mum is a learner taxi driver. Oh the irony.)
After sightseeing around the country for some 1 hour ("Oh dear, Sentosa is not East Coast. I forgot. Let's turn around again."), we finally reached the Gateway unscathed.

Now you know why I arrived at the beach rather late.

3) And after breaking camp, I gave stormy a lift to the station. Did you catch that? I gave stormy a lift to the station. Oh do you feel the power vibrating in those 3 discreet words! CAR. PWN. POWDER.
But it's difficult to exercise Teh Powder when both stormy+(mostly)mum kept giving me wrong turning instructions.
At least I get to hone my lane-changing technique...

Yeah, hope I don't sound like a scary driver.

'Cos I'm not.

Honest.

(Ask stormy!)

Sunday, July 24, 2005 :: 11:31 p.m.

(yet another) super long ass entry :D

Okay, if I don't make this entry now, I won't be able to for another 5 days. (Because, camp again! Yeeah.)

Got Saiyuki Reload #5 and Tsubasa #10.
1) Nice to see all my translation errors coming out in spades. I'm so ashamed. XD
Excuse: I -know- some of my interpretations are more correct than their translation. Fan's instinct :D

There was one line though, which made me go, "Oh. Major foreshadowing all screwed up." It was Sanzo commenting to Hakkai on Hazel's power in act.19, and while I had it as:
"The ability to control souls freely... I don't know what kind of saint he is, but--- He's not somebody whom any person can handle.
The tank treated the subject in question as the -power- itself, not Hazel:
"That is, his power to control souls. No matter what kind of saint he is... no one person can completely handle that power."

Well that's a whole world of difference isn't it. I'm quite inclined to adapt to the tank's version because it makes good plot sense and fits the original japanese line and, you know, is just -correct-, but then I think involuntarily of
Gunlock!TheGreatSpirit... so... um... Ididn'tsayanything yes.

And
2) Hazel gets the good lines, doesn't he now. Why, he called Gato "hentaiperverted" for not waking him from the nightmare. Damn if that sounded right XD

Plus he actually uttered, "²ÇÄ㶼ɵ¡£" near the end of the book. Wha-
Tell me now, anybody, is "cai ni dou sha" actually common colloquial mandarin/taiwanese?? 'Cause I've only ever known it as a cantonese phrase and... and... I mean... If it -is- mandarin as well, then you'll hear me start to abuse it soon enough. *evil grin*

But!
Onto Tsubasa!
Ah, before that, let me just say that I've by now completely given up on catching Death Note on a weekly basis; it hurts the brain too much. I'll just grab the tank when it comes out and devour all the plottwists and comeuppence whatnots in one shot hopefully without going "wargh" too much.

And to digress slightly, the tank cover for DN#7 is So Much Love. *lovesmolestsL*

Now in Tsubasa's case, I'm more than glad to follow it weekly. It totally is not because of splash pages like this that might not be collected in the tankoubon; no it totally isn't. So colourful. So... domesticated. What freaking nice pants Fai is wearing. So Saiyuki, so family-like, only with more cherries on top. And with a canon "otousama" to boot. And those shoes Kuro"otousan"gane has on? Must be Nike.
I'll confess here that I spent entirely too much time staring at Fai.no.i mean. this picture when I first saw it in the Shonen Magazine issue a couple of weeks back. I couldn't even flip the page to get on with the actual content; I just kept thinking I've got to get this picture. This pic was that captivating to me. (And thanks to this site I got the scan!)

But of course, it's still the story (or rather, character interaction) that works the magic, so much that I can't -just- wait for the tank, as is xxxHOLiC. And Kurogane just keeps getting so much cooler (squealed at latest chapter, yes I did) :D

Random pic spam:
<- squeeeeeeee!
Clamp no Kiseki #11 features Fai and Kurogane on its cover! That's also the very issue the Kurogane chess piece comes with. If I'm not careful with my willpower... ... $49... ...
...Saw the Queen!Sakura chess piece in Kino. Very cute. But I wanna see the Kuro and Fai (and Yuuko) ones~~~ (That new King!Syaoran one above looks really cute too :D)

Also watched animeTsubasa #13 and #14. And you know what? Crack exists. FINALLY. In #14. I bet Namikawa Daisuke had so much fun generating crack out of Fai's voice. And Kurogane FINALLY tries to maul Fai for the first time in the anime, unless memory fails me. Happiness! In fact, #13 was already showing promise with less-than-usual still/silent panning scenes. There was even none of that major soundtrack which I was starting to get so sick of (though it came back to haunt the last bit of #14 -_-). Will download the subbed version of #14 to better understand the crack :D

Hall camp starts tomorrow.
I swear I'm going to have the feeling of many things still left undone before the start of school.

Sunday, July 17, 2005 :: 05:49 p.m.

One should not- never- ever- be glad of a suddenly-available seat on the train when sleepiness is prevailing and the destination is only 2 stops away. Especially if said train is the last one running.

I was so bemused to find myself at the terminal stop that I forgot to thank the person who woke me up.

And there were no more trains going back the other direction. That didn't look fun then -- it really didn't.

At least I've always said that I wanted to see this station once. Fair enough. It's nice and big. But that's probably because not one soul was present by the time I went down to the concourse. Except the control station officers. Whom I tried not to embarrass myself in front of as I attempted to figure out how to get past this spiffy-looking auto-door in order to get to the bus interchange outside. (And since it -was- auto, it wasn't as difficult as I'd imagined to get it open after all.)

So outside I stood, feeling terribly stranded in the deserted bus interchange. (Think: cold bitter wind howling against a lone figure beneath a dark velvet night. It's close enough.) But this isn't about to turn into TEH ENTRY: Day I met a ghost!!1 or something, you know? I'm just sayin', it's a very strange feeling to have missed the last train (technically) for 2 consecutive days.
So this time, I breathed a sigh of relief - which must have echoed through the entire interchange it's so damn empty - to see the bus schedule telling me that a bus which goes near my house was still running.

I used to think I'm super at staying up late at night but nowadays this confidence has been rattled. So. Much. (And stormy? I'll kill you for waking me up with that phonecall. If I remember to.)

Apart from that, yesterday can be neatly summed up as: exploring hostel room! and, no such thing happened. In fact, the BBQ was done near a car park in a humble metal tray on the floor underneath many residents' windows that -could- eject water if our voices/smoke turned out too irritating. Fortunately no such thing happened either. (We also managed to leave black scorch marks on the recently-renovated tiled-floor at the end. So, no, nothing to be proud of really...)
But I do cook just-nicely-well-done meat. Even though I put surplus amount of honey to cheat taste. Take that!

Also, it's (somewhat) heartening to see the diverseness of the courses the softballers are going to: medicine; dentistry; arts; econs overseas; accountancy.
Ah, accountancy.
Yet another person going to ntu accountancy. *ticks list*

Saturday, July 16, 2005 :: 11:57 p.m.

Had been
1) sleeping
2) sleeping
3) sleeping
for the past few days. Afternoon till next afternoon; morning till night; night till afternoon. Sleeping cycle's totally wrecked. (so. what else is new?)

And when I occasionally wake early, it was either to go for outing or to help bring back groceries for mum on my bike. Which started out as a triathlon of sorts because I had to retrieve the bike I left at another shopping centre not-very-close-to-home the other day. (I had forgotten about the bike and actually took the train home -_- Nice one, s.C.)
So after I ran/jogged all the way to pick up the bike and rode back in the other direction past many streets and slopes to the other mall,

"Ah. ...Only 6 bags?" I raised an eyebrow, pointing mildly at the 6 grocery bags -- very big ones they were indeed -- that could just about be equivilent to 12 small bags. To be hung on either side of the handlebars. Potentially drop-able.
"No eggs."
"... Fair enough."

Yes, to be -very- fair, after overcoming the troublesome sabotage that is the front wheel almost rubbing holes through the bags and possibly making anything-other-than-eggs drop out, the heavier bicycle actually balances quite nicely. Yeah. Yeahthatisall. @_@
And in the spirit of a triathlon, I wrapped things up with a water event -- shower! Lalala. because I was so damn hot noit'snotapun butyou'rewelcometointerpretitthatway after the ride. Even my skin started peeling (quite belatedly don't you think?, since the camp ended quite some time ago...), but you don't need to know... that. Ah. Oh well.

And I came home at about 1.30am yesterday(today) from og outing after missing the last train and stuff. The "stuff" was actually what made coming home so much later, but I'm not gonna write that all down. TOO LAZY

AM STILL SLEEP DEPRIVED ARRRR.

Tomorrow I shall talk about manga :D or not.

 Back from Insinyur

Skin is now 3x darker
Voice is now 3x sexier hoarser
Weight is now 3xkg lighter
Then there were the 3 other potential SpecialPartners I was introduced to. But it was during that "blindfolded trek" night. So I never did find out their identities though we talked quite a fair bit. So just to remind myself should I ever hear of their names around the campus again... Edison Shawn Gallen... I wanted to strangle that Programmer who hooked us up though; she was getting me into a spot by making me choose one of them :D

Oh yeah, to those of you I was talking to on msn just now when I stopped replying... Well my father suddenly scooted in and stole the computer off me. Damn. You'd have thunk he's got enough personal time with the computer during my one-week absence.

I'm still very sleepy

Scanned! Translated! Efficiency! Achievement!

But Spymac ain't cooperating.

So this is where hollosite comes in handy again. Beware s.C. the big Devourer-of-Webspace! *shows fangs*

I haven't put up July's translation yet. Because it's still atrocious. I hates keigo! It bites! >_<

Off to camp tomorrow. (So will the rest of you. So why am I writing this entry? :D;;) And I haven't finished drawing the AkabaneGinji chibis yet! Oh the shame. I'm bringing a sketchbook there in case I get bored.
